Wolverine Medicine Limted Edition

This image was created from four photos.

I started with the sky photo which is from a tipi burner.  These were used by lumber mills to burn their slash.  They were metal tipis with screens on top to prevent the embers from floating out and starting a fire.  I changed its rusty color to look like a celestial sky.  The stars you see in the night sky are actually holes in the metal.

When you take a photo of a light source with the correct exposures dialed into your camera you get stars.  The tipi image was taken at Native American Indian days in Browning, Montana on the Blackfeet Nation. There is a layer of fire over the image to add atmosphere.  The swopping lines are an in-camera technique called painting with light.  I stood under the screen of the tipi burner where the light was coming through the holes that made the stars, set my camera on a slow shutter speed and spun my body.  This created the motion in the image.

Native peoples believe every animal has a specific medicine.  They say the medicine of Wolverine is powerful.  If it is out of balance, it is too powerful.  So, it can teach you/us how to regulate this power in a balanced way.  It can help us to communicate.  We need to call on Wolverine Medicine in these times we live.  It can teach us to listen and speak, in a balance way, without being defensive, controlling, divisive, passive or invisible.    It teaches us to speak up kindly, with respect and honor.
